Principal Dentist: Don McGrath

Don joined Glen Maye as a partner in 1992 following in the eminent footsteps of Professor F.J. Trevor Burke. He had previously worked as an Associate with Lester Ellman.

Don has been a part-time teacher at the University of Manchester Dental Hospital but now concentrates his efforts full time at Glen Maye.

He has been a trainer for new Dental Graduates at the practice for the last 4 years.

Don has always been keen to further his knowledge by way of Postgraduate education, culminating in the award of Diploma of Postgraduate of Dental Studies in 2003.

He has also received further training in implantology at Sheffield University and is qualified to restore a number of the leading implant systems. He is a Member of the Association of Dental Implantologists.

Don has a keen interest in all aspects of modern dentistry, especially cosmetic dentistry including; tooth whitening, porcelain veneers, non metallic crown systems and non metallic fillings.

Don's next project is to complete the Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners. (MFGDP (UK))

Associate Dentist: Bevan Wynne Roberts

BDS 1998

GDC no. 74931

Bevan graduated from Liverpool Dental School in 1998. In his final year he was awarded the 'Lawton Medal' for Advanced Conservative Dentistry.

Bevan has a continued commitment to postgraduate education recently attending courses in advanced endodontics and advanced restorative dentistry.

He has been at Glen Maye since 1998.

Associate Dentist: Mark McAfee

BDS MJDF RCS (Eng)

GDC no. 82219

Mark qualified as a dental surgeon from Queen’s University Belfast in 2003 with a distinction in the Practice of Dentistry. He then completed his vocational training year at Glen Maye and remained as an associate until 2006. Then Mark went to work and travel in Australia for a year and spent time working as a lead clinician in the Outback with the Aboriginal medical service and spent six months working as a dental officer at ‘The Royal dental Hospital of Melbourne’.

On his return to Glen Maye he has since been actively involved in post-graduate education and has achieved ‘The Diploma of Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties at The Royal College of Surgeons of England (MJDF RCS Eng)’

Mark has many interests within dentistry including advanced restorative and cosmetic dentistry, and is currently getting involved with restoring dental implants.

Outside of work his interests include cycling, mountain biking, 5 a side soccer and snowboarding.

Associate Dentist: Preeti Sharma

Preeti  graduated from Leeds Dental Institute in 2000.  After completing her Vocational Training year in Central Manchester, Preeti  has practised  as an Associate Dentist in  Didsbury since 2001.

She is a friendly, caring and ethical dentist and very much believes in exploring all options with patients and involving them in all aspects of treatment planning.

Showing a firm commitment to postgraduate education, Preeti has undertaken a 12 month Multi-System Implantology Course at Trafford General Hospital and a 12 month Advanced Restorative Course by Tipton Training Faculty. Preeti's next venture will be to undertake a Master's Degree in Restorative Dentistry in the near future.

Associate Dentist: Catie Sherlock

Catie graduated with a distinction from Leeds University in 2013.  She was awarded 4 prizes in total including the title of ‘most distinguished student’. After university, Catie moved back to Staffordshire to complete her Dental Foundation Training. She stayed here for a few years before moving to Manchester to work at Glen Maye.

Catie is always keen to learn and keep up to date with the latest advances in dentistry. Since leaving university, Catie has obtained the ‘Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow’ and has completed the first year of a Masters degree in Restorative Dentistry.

Outside of work Catie enjoys keeping fit, socialising and loves travelling.

Associate Dentist: Alex Crawford

Registered Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry

Alex Crawford graduated as a dentist from Liverpool University in 1968. He trained in Dental Public Health at Leeds Dental School in 1972 and did his Specialist Training in Children’s Dentistry at the Eastman Dental School in London in 1974.

He worked as a Senior Dentist in the Community Dental Service in Liverpool until 1978, then became District dental Officer in Oldham and later Clinical Director of Community Dental Services in South Manchester where he played an active clinical role in treating adults and children with special needs.

Since 1978, he has been an Honorary staff member in the Department of Paediatric Dentistry at Manchester University Dental School, acting as Tutor and Lecturer to both undergraduates and postgraduate students, particularly in the field of dental sedation and patient management in Children’s Dentistry. He obtained his PhD from Liverpool University in 1995.

He continues to work in the Community Dental Service in Manchester which is now a division of Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, and he also works in General Dental Practice treating young and anxious children who are referred to him for specialist child management and sedation to enable them to accept dental treatment.

Alex has a son who is a psychiatrist, and two daughters, one a teacher and the other a dentist in Salford.

Head Dental Nurse: Rute Moreira

GDC no. 140637

Rute joined Glen Maye in 2007 as a dental nurse. For the previous 8 years she worked in a private dental practice in Portugal as a dental nurse - 'She has now swapped sunny Lisbon for the 'lovely English weather' and is very happy working at Glen Maye with such a supportive team.

Currently as Senior Dental Nurse she is responsible for helping to motivate the clinical staff and to ensure everyone is working as part of a team. She is also the Link Nurse for cross infection control and working alongside the PCT she ensures that the practice maintains compliance with current infection control guidelines and legislation as well as ensuring patients and the clinical team are suitably protected.

She is committed in continuing her professional development by attending courses regularly – In 2010 Rute undertook further training in implantology and she currently assists in implants carried out at Glen Maye.

Hygienist: Julie Timbrell

I have worked in dentistry for 36 years of which the last 17 years have been as a hygienist after studying at Manchester University ,which shows how passionate and dedicated I am about my profession.

Since then I have worked in NHS, PRIVATE and community sectors. Treating children, adults and special need patients. In addition to clinical work I have also taught at bury general hospital and St Mary's anti-natal classes.

My education continues to progress with my continual personal development courses,all of which enables me to treat my patients in a friendly caring and professional manner.

My hobbies include skiing, horse riding and playing golf.

Hygienist: Paula Jackson

I qualified at the royal dental school in London and have worked in NHS/private practices in the local area.

I joined Glen Maye in the year 2000 and have worked closely alongside Don McGrath (Principal)in conjunction  with the Practice associates and other hygienists  to create a preventative approach to dental disease.

I have undertaken post qualification education including a certificate in local infiltration analgesia, tooth whitening and placement of temporary restorations.

As a member of the British dental hygienist and therapy association. I regularly attend post graduate meetings and training courses ran by and in conjunction with other professional dental associations.

I enjoy spending time with my family on our narrow boat in Warwickshire and also I love skiing

Hygienist: Melanie Hayes

Melanie qualified in 1991 at Liverpool Dental Hospital after working 8 years as a dental nurse and Dental Health Educator.
Melanie has the pleasure of rejoining the practice after working here in 2002.
Melanie frequently attends post graduate dental courses to keep up to date with her Continual Professional Development.

Hygienist: Michelle Burke

Michelles ambition to study dental hygiene therapy developed over several years of working as a dental nurse in various sectors of Dentistry including both NHS and Private Practices and at Manchester Dental Hospital. During Michelles time at at the Dental Hospital she gained post qualifications in oral health education, dental sedation and radiography.

In 2008 Michelle gained a place at the Greater Manchester School for DCPs undertaking a 27 month intensive course in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. After qualification Michelle completed a vocational training scheme in general practice allowing her to refine skills within a practice setting. Over the past 4 years Michelle has continued to work in general practice doing both NHS therapy and hygiene work. This varied role has allowed Michelle to utilise skills with both adults and children and it is one that she thoroughly enjoys. Michelle attends regular courses to keep up to date with current practices within Dentistry.

Michelle enjoys getting to know patients and working with them over time, developing the best techniques to maintain their own personal oral health.

Practice Manager: Viv Dickenson

Viv joined Glen Maye Dental Practice in 1998. She started working here as a qualified dental nurse and has progressed to the position of the practice manager, where she helps to manage a team of seven dentists, three hygienists and ten supporting members of staff.

Viv enjoys being at the heart of the practice often seen at the reception desk, where her welcoming smile, positive attitude and sympathetic ear have endeared her to many of our patients over the years.
